Lymphangioleiomyomatosis
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare lung disease that results in a proliferation of disorderly smooth muscle growth (leiomyoma) throughout the lungs, in the bronchioles, alveolar septa, perivascular spaces, and lymphatics, resulting in the obstruction of small airways (leading to pulmonary cyst formation and pneumothorax) and lymphatics (leading to chylous pleural effusion). LAM occurs in a sporadic form, which affects only females, usually of childbearing age; LAM also occurs in patients who have tuberous sclerosis.

The most common is ankylosing spondylitis, which affects mainly the spine.Others include: Axial spondyloarthritis, which affects mainly the spine and pelvic joints; peripheral spondyloarthritis, affecting mostly the arms and legs; reactive arthritis (formerly known as Reiter's syndrome); psoriatic arthritis; and enteropathic arthritis/ spondylitis associated with inflammatory bowel diseases.

In human anatomy, the pleural cavity is the potential space between the two pleurae (visceral and parietal) of the lungs. The pleura is a serous membrane which folds back onto itself to form a two-layered membrane structure. The thin space between the two pleural layers is known as the pleural cavity and normally contains a small amount of pleural fluid. The outer pleura (parietal pleura) is attached to the chest wall. The inner pleura (visceral pleura) covers the lungs and adjoining structures, via blood vessels, bronchi and nerves.
