Blood Test to measure love life

Oxitocin structure

Are you in a relationship and want to know how long it will last? Just check the level of oxytocin or the “love hormone” in your blood, scientists say.

Researchers tested the oxytocin levels in the blood of 163 youth, 120 of whom had recently gotten into serious relationships. They found that new lovers had substantially higher levels of oxytocin, as compared to non-attached singles. The couples were tracked down six months later, and it was discovered that 36 couples were still together. Couples who stayed together showed higher oxytocin levels in the initial period of romance. These findings suggest that oxytocin levels in the first months of romantic love may serve as an index of a relationship's duration.
